Workplace Issues & Grievances

Having a problem on the job? You don’t have to handle it alone.

Your Rights

As a Local 14 member, you work under a collective bargaining agreement. If your employer violates that agreement — whether on wages, working conditions, safety standards, discipline, or any other provision — you have the right to file a grievance.
The grievance process is your contractual mechanism for resolving disputes. It exists to protect you without requiring you to fight alone.

What to Do

If you believe your rights under the contract have been violated:

  1. Document what happened — dates, times, who was present, what was said or done
  2. Contact your business agent as soon as possible
  3. Do not wait — grievances are subject to time limits under the contract

Safety Issues

If you are asked to perform work that you believe presents an imminent safety hazard, you have the right to refuse. Contact your business agent immediately.

OSHA also operates a confidential complaint process. Workers can file a complaint without their employer being notified of who filed. OSHA complaint line: 1-800-321-OSHA
